Description
Volcanic breccia bouldering on the side of Mulholland Highway, just 10 minutes from the 101 or the 1, but seemingly a world away. The bouldering is limited somewhat, comprised mostly of two boulders which have been developed and a few hidden boulders down the hillside. Also, 0.2 miles further up from Mulholland lies another boulder with chossier rock, though a bit taller known as the Captain's or "Other" boulder. Being so featured the lines are somewhat contrived, most range from VB-V3 with a few harder lines to be found.Directions:
From the 101: a) exit westlake blvd. and head southwest (towards the beach!) After a few windy miles uphill the road crests and on your left will be Mulholland Highway. Proceed 0.9 miles down until you see a large boulder on your right. b) exit kanan rd. and head southwest (towards the beach). After you drive through two tunnels the road angels downhill and to the right, when it flattens it intersects Mulholland Highway, take a right. Continue down for 0.9 miles and veer to the right at the Y intersection, continuing down Mulholland. Proceed another 1.4 miles and you will see a large boulder on your left (at 1.3 miles you will see the Captain's boulder on your right).
From PCH: Take Kanan-Dume for 6.2 miles, till you reach the intersection of Mulholland Highway, if you hit the 2nd tunnel you've driven too far. Take a left onto Mulholland and continue down for 0.9 miles and veer to the right at the Y intersection, continuing down Mulholland. Proceed another 1.4 miles and you will see a large boulder on your left (at 1.3 miles you will see the Captain's boulder on your right).
